Abstract:
This paper aims to analyse the educational status of the Toto tribal community, a primitive tribe numbering only 1575 people with 810 male and 765 female located in west Bengal. It discusses the impact of various educational policies of government on this community. It also sees the initiatives taken by the other non-governmental organizations for spreading education within this community and also aims to analyse the challenges for mainstreaming education and also trying to given some suggestion and measurement for the development of education profile of this community.
Being an empirical work, the study consults the official documents for its theoretical basis and uses survey, interview technique and statistical methods to collect and analyse data related to the study. For this study researcher has taken household surveys, interview of some leading and also common people from this community. A three year period has been used for observation.
