tradition. in the early period humor in Cinema contributed to the entertainment we see
this early in the period of the silent Cinema. Charley Chaplin has devoted his genius in
order to create such a humourous feeling over the audience. He made deep philosophical
analysis of life by using comedy and humourous acting.
The same trend is seen in Sri Lankan Cinema from its initial period up to now. SouthIndian
film, Sanskrit drama and Sinhala Nadagama have provided the background for the
development of humor .in Sri Lankan Cinema. But the First Comedy roles were very
conventional and failed to establish a local identity.
