Domestic violence is a rapidly spreading social issue in this complex society.
Domestic violence (some times referred to as domestic abuse or spousal abuse) occurs
when a family member, or partner or ex-partner attempts to physically or psychologically
dominate another. Domestic violence often refers to violence between spouses, or spousal
abuse but can also include cohabitants and non-married intimate partners. Domestic
violence occurs in all culture; people of all races, ethnicities, religions, sexes hnd classes
can be perpetrators of domestic violence. The term "Intimate partner violence" (IPV) is
often used synonymously. Family violence is a broader definition, often used to include
child abuse, elder abuse and other violent acts between family members. Domestic violence
can take many forms, including physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional, economic and
psychological abuse. Even though violence against women was heard in the past, about the
case of domestic violence against children has increased at present.
The objective of this research is to identity the impact of domestic violence on child
mentality. The locations of research are Angagoda, Dope and Mullagoda, Gramaniladari
divisions of Bentota divisional secretariat in the Galle district. The Methodology of this
study is comprised of two vital research methods. They are comparative method and case
study method. Interviews and observations are used as tools of data collection. Secondary
data were collected from sources such as relevant books, magazines, news papers and the
internet. This is an indepth study on a socio - psychological analysis of domestic violence
on child mentality. Family socialization is very important to children's' culture. Parents'
love, protection and care help to build the personality of child. It can be seen fear, anxiety,
violent behavior and shortages of personality in children belong to families with domestic
violence. Domestic violence had obstructed the education of the children. As domestic
violence against children they become inhuman persons in the future. Domestic violence
against children often can be seen as physical and psychological abuse. |
